Commission Recognizes Sterling High School Students for Wind Project

Topeka, KS - Today, the Commission recognized members of "Team Wind Advisory" for placing first in the Kansas KidWind Challenge, and for representing Kansas at the National KidWind Challenge in Washington, D.C. The team is comprised of Taryn Gillespie, Austin Myers, Luke Schweizer, all Advanced Environmental Science students at Sterling High School.

"This is truly an outstanding group of students who are to be commended for their accomplishment," stated Shari Feist Albrecht, Chair, Kansas Corporation Commission. "The Commission is proud to recognize their work to investigate, experiment, and learn about wind as an energy resource."

As part of the Kansas KidWind Challenge, teams were required to design a wind turbine, compete in an energy output contest, and present their findings to a panel of judges. The Kansas KidWind Challenge is hosted annually by Kansas State University. The Commission presented each student with a certificate during their Thursday Commission meeting.
