Kansas Corporation Commission Hosts Public Hearing for Kansas Gas Service Rate Increase

Topeka, KS - The Kansas Corporation Commission will host a public hearing to solicit input from members of the public regarding Kansas Gas Service's (KGS) request to increase its rates for utility service.

The hearing will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the BEST Conference Center at the Edwards Campus of the University of Kansas, located at 12600 Quivira Road in Overland Park, Kansas.

Those unable to attend in person can watch the hearing live from the Commission's website: www.kcc.ks.gov. In the event of technical difficulty or for those unable to watch live, a recording of the hearing will be available on the Commission's website beginning October 3, 2016.

KGS filed an application with the Kansas Corporation Commission requesting a $28 million rate increase. Additionally, KGS has requested the reclassification of the Gas System Reliability Surcharge, previously approved by the Commission. The requested increase would affect the portions of a customer's bill that relate to the delivery of natural gas by Kansas Gas Service to customers, including the fixed monthly Service Charge and the Delivery Charge.

In its application, KGS said the increase was necessary because the company has continued to make investments in its system to provide safe, reliable and efficient natural gas service to its customers. The company further stated it has experienced increases in wages, medical expenses and supplier costs. If approved, the average monthly bill for residential customers will increase $4.34 per month, an increase of 7.4 percent.

Any person requiring special accommodations at the hearing site under the Americans with Disabilities Act needs to give notice to the Commission at least 10 days prior to the scheduled hearing date by calling (785) 271-3140.
