Kansas Rural Center receives Governor's Energy Award

The Kansas Rural Center received the Governor's Energy Recognition Award in Energy Education at the Kansas Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Conference held in Topeka.

Kansas Rural Center (KRC) is a non-profit organization that promotes the long-term health of the land and its people through research, education, and advocacy. The KRC cultivates grassroots support for public policies that encourage family farming and stewardship of soil and water. KRC is committed to economically viable, environmentally sound, and socially sustainable rural culture.

In 2005, the KRC helped sponsor, organize, and led members of the Governor's Rural Life Task Force and the Kansas Energy Council to southwestern Minnesota. The purpose of the trip was to talk with local officials and wind advocates to learn how the state had become a leader in the development of community wind facilities.

In 2006, partnering with the Kansas Farm Bureau, Kansas Farmers Union, Cloud County Community College, and the Kansas Energy Office, the KRC helped organize and co-sponsored a Community Wind Conference in Concordia.

The KRC now facilitates a new Wind for Schools program, in cooperation with Kansas State University and the Kansas Energy Office, under the auspices of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado.
