Motor Carrier Inspectors Receive National Award Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration recognizes Kansas enforcement program
Topeka, KS- For the third consecutive year, Kansas has received the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) leadership award. This award, presented by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) and the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC).
The award was formally accepted by the Kansas Highway Patrol on behalf of the Kansas Corporation Commission on April 8th at the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance – Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Programs leadership meeting. On May 16th, the Kansas Corporation Commission was presented the plaque by FMCSA State Program Specialist, Ed Boring at an annual training meeting in Salina.
"The award recognizes both agencies' efforts to insure safety and compliance of the regulations designed to protect both the commercial vehicle operator and the general public. I am confident the combined efforts have contributed to the overall reduction of the injuries and collisions involving commercial vehicles," said Capt. Daniel Meyer with the Kansas Highway Patrol.
In 2006, the Kansas Corporation Commission and the Kansas Highway Patrol joined together to enhance the Kansas Safety Compliance Program and created the Civil Assessment Penalty Program. "The KCC and the KHP have effectively partnered to improve the productivity of the Kansas commercial motor vehicle enforcement programs," said Mike Hoeme, KCC Transportation Division Director.
Due to the two agencies heightened emphasis on its Commercial Motor Vehicle Education and Enforcement Programs and its ongoing Safety Compliance Seminar, the Civil Assessment Program has seen notable decreases in the number of serious safety violations and accidents involving commercial motor vehicles. "Kansas' compliance program continues to evolve as both the KCC and the KHP strive to focus our resources on unsafe drivers and motor carriers, resulting in a safer environment for the motoring public," Hoeme said.
