KCC Approves $1.4 Million Rate Increase for Midwest Energy;
Recovers costs associated with storm damage and Goodman Energy Center

Topeka, KS-The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) today approved a Stipulation and Agreement reached by Midwest Energy Inc., KCC staff, and the Citizens' Utility Ratepayer Board (CURB) granting Midwest Energy a $1.4 million rate increase, a reduction of approximately $450 thousand from Midwest’s original request. The approval is subject to the preparation of an appropriate order to be issued by the Commission no later than August 3rd. Midwest Energy customers will see their bills increase by approximately 1.34 percent beginning August 5th.

This abbreviated rate case was filed in accordance with an agreement reached by the parties in the prior rate case. In August 2008, the Commission agreed to allow Midwest Energy's customers to defer payment for storm-related costs and for the second phase of the Goodman Energy Center construction until costs were known with certainty. At that time, the parties asked for expedited treatment of this abbreviated rate case with a goal of implementing any revenue increases within 60 days of filing.
