Transit service providers funded by FTA grants under sections 5307, 5310 or 5311 are not subject to the financial responsibility requirements of 49 CFR 387, however must maintain financial responsibility at the highest level required by any state in which they operate motor vehicles.

*If your vehicle otherwise meets the definition of a commercial motor vehicle, that is, has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 10,001 pounds or more, the vehicle and driver are subject to all applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
